How is this possible? Why doesn’t the government just tax 99% of their income so they become richer?

I only asked how much the gates’s gave for actual food as opposed to education and computers, but my first answer was really confusing to me. When can people learn to answer questions in this forum without throwing rocks at those who ask? I’ve always admired Mr. and Mrs. Gates and have even been polite enough to address them properly.
